“Green World, Green Region” Summit on Sustainability & the Environment

Wednesday October 3 from 8 am – 4:30 pm

MORPC or the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission is hosting their annual Summit on Sustainability & the Environment.  This year the Summit is a featured event of the international EcoSummit 2012 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

Developed to aid individuals, businesses and community leaders who wish to “go green,” the Summit for Sustainability & the Environment is now in its 6th year. This is an exciting event that brings together hundreds of people with a common desire to make our world a better place for current and future generations.

The keynote speaker is Lisa Wojanarowski-Downes, coordinator of the North America initiative of the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) and freshwater expert with The Nature Conservancy. Her work has never been more important, as some groups are calling water the “oil of the 21st century”. This year’s event will also feature a workshop on the topic of water. “Creating more livable and sustainable communities with green infrastructure” will include ideas on how to help clean up impaired waterways while at the same time revitalizing our communities. The panel of experts will also highlight a rain garden cost share program, the downtown Columbus Scioto Greenways redevelopment, and storm water management strategies used in several collaborative projects in the urban neighborhood of Weinland Park.
